Anthropic: $965 Billion Valuation Following $65 Billion Series H Funding And Claude Opus 4.8 Launch

Anthropic announced two major milestones today, raising $65 billion in Series H funding at a $965 billion post-money valuation and launching Claude Opus 4.8, the latest version of its flagship AI model. Together, the announcements underscore the company’s accelerating enterprise adoption, growing infrastructure footprint, and continued investment in advancing AI capabilities and safety.

The Series H funding round was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital. The round was also co-led by Capital Group, Coatue, D1 Capital Partners, GIC, ICONIQ, and XN, with participation from a broad group of institutional investors and strategic partners. The financing includes $15 billion of previously committed investments from hyperscalers, including $5 billion from Amazon.

Anthropic said enterprise adoption of Claude continues to expand across industries, with its run-rate revenue surpassing $47 billion earlier this month. The company plans to use the funding to advance safety and interpretability research, expand compute capacity to meet growing demand, and scale products and partnerships supporting customers worldwide.

The company also highlighted strategic infrastructure partnerships with Micron, Samsung, and SK hynix, whose technologies support the global supply of memory, storage, and logic chips. Anthropic said these relationships will help support the growing compute requirements of Claude.

In recent weeks, Anthropic significantly expanded its compute footprint. The company signed agreements with Amazon for up to five gigawatts of new capacity, with Google and Broadcom for five gigawatts of next-generation TPU capacity, and with SpaceX for access to GPU capacity in Colossus 1 and Colossus 2. Anthropic noted that Claude is now the first frontier model available across Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, while AWS remains its primary cloud provider and training partner.

Alongside the funding announcement, Anthropic unveiled Claude Opus 4.8, an upgraded version of its flagship model that builds on Opus 4.7 with improvements across coding, reasoning, agentic workflows, and practical knowledge work tasks. The company said Opus 4.8 is available immediately at the same pricing as its predecessor.

Anthropic said early testers found Opus 4.8 to be a more reliable collaborator with stronger judgment during agentic tasks. One of the model’s most notable improvements is increased honesty and transparency around uncertainty. According to Anthropic, evaluations show Opus 4.8 is approximately four times less likely than Opus 4.7 to allow flaws in generated code to pass without acknowledgment.

The company’s Alignment team reported that Opus 4.8 achieved its highest scores yet on measures related to supporting user autonomy and acting in users’ best interests. Anthropic also stated that rates of misaligned behavior, including deception and cooperation with misuse, were substantially lower than Opus 4.7 and comparable to Claude Mythos Preview, its most aligned model to date.

The Opus 4.8 release also introduces several new capabilities. Claude Code now includes a research preview feature called Dynamic Workflows, enabling the model to plan and execute large-scale projects using hundreds of parallel subagents within a single session. Anthropic said this capability allows Claude to perform codebase-wide migrations involving hundreds of thousands of lines of code while validating outputs against existing test suites.

The company also launched effort controls in claude.ai and Cowork, allowing users to adjust how much computational effort Claude applies to a task. Higher effort settings provide deeper reasoning and stronger results, while lower effort settings prioritize speed and reduced usage of rate limits. The Messages API has also been updated to allow developers to modify system instructions during tasks without interrupting prompt caching or workflow execution.

Anthropic said Opus 4.8 defaults to a high-effort setting designed to balance performance and user experience. Additional “extra” and “max” effort modes are available for more demanding workflows, with rate limits increased to support the higher token usage associated with these settings.

Looking ahead, Anthropic said it is developing models that can deliver Opus-level capabilities at lower cost while also advancing a new class of models with even greater intelligence. Through Project Glasswing, select organizations are already testing Claude Mythos Preview for cybersecurity applications. Anthropic expects to bring Mythos-class models to a broader customer base once additional cyber safety safeguards are completed.

Claude Opus 4.8 is available globally through Claude and the Claude API. Pricing remains unchanged from Opus 4.7 at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens for standard usage, with fast mode available at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens.
