Anthropic is reportedly in talks to acquire Nvidia-backed Decart AI in a potential deal valued at about $6 billion, as the Claude developer looks to expand its computing capabilities and meet growing demand ahead of a potential public listing, according to Bloomberg. The discussions remain in the early stages, and there is no guarantee a transaction will be completed.
Decart develops AI infrastructure and optimization technologies alongside its own artificial intelligence models.
The company’s technology could help Anthropic improve the efficiency of its AI systems and absorb additional demand as usage of Claude and other Anthropic products grows.
If the transaction goes through, Decart’s team is expected to join Anthropic’s inference and performance organization.
That would put Decart’s engineers close to the technical work of making Anthropic’s models run more efficiently at scale.
Inference, which refers to the process of running a trained AI model to generate responses or perform tasks, has become an increasingly important infrastructure challenge as frontier models gain users and handle more complicated workloads.
Even companies with access to large amounts of computing infrastructure face pressure to make models faster and more efficient because each query consumes processing resources.
Decart has focused part of its work on addressing these infrastructure and optimization challenges.
The startup also develops its own AI models.
Its Lucy model can edit live video in real time, demonstrating technology that processes and transforms visual information with minimal delay.
Decart has also developed Oasis, a model that can generate simulated environments. Those environments can be used to train and test robotics and autonomous-driving systems, extending the company’s work beyond traditional language models into physical AI and simulation.
Decart raised $300 million in a funding round announced in May 2026. Radical Ventures led the financing, with Nvidia joining as a new investor.
A potential $6 billion acquisition would be a significant strategic move for Anthropic as it increases investment across the computing stack supporting Claude.
Anthropic has been working aggressively to expand computing capacity as demand for its AI services increases.
The company is also preparing for a potential major initial public offering.
Infrastructure constraints have become particularly important for Anthropic as increasingly capable models require more computing resources during both training and everyday use.
The company has recently taken steps to gain greater control over how its models interact with underlying hardware.
Anthropic said earlier in August that it was hiring engineers with expertise across both hardware and software to help co-design custom chips and AI models.
That effort is intended to make Claude run faster and more efficiently by optimizing hardware and models together rather than treating them as separate components.
Acquiring Decart could complement that strategy by adding a team focused specifically on AI infrastructure, inference, and performance optimization.
The deal could also give Anthropic additional technology to increase the amount of AI workload a given amount of computing capacity can support.
For Anthropic, the potential transaction would therefore be less about simply adding another AI model developer and more about strengthening the infrastructure layer underneath Claude.
The reported discussions come as frontier AI companies increasingly compete not only on model intelligence but also on inference efficiency, computing availability, hardware optimization and the ability to serve rapidly growing numbers of enterprise and consumer users.
If completed at approximately $6 billion, the Decart acquisition would mark a major expansion of Anthropic’s technical capabilities as the company scales toward a potential IPO and works to overcome the computing bottlenecks created by rapidly increasing Claude usage.
