Anthropic Reportedly Signs $35 Billion Lambda Cloud Deal For 350 MW Texas AI Data Center

Anthropic has signed a $35 billion cloud computing agreement with Nvidia-backed Lambda tied to a roughly 350 MW artificial intelligence data center in Texas, Reuters reported, citing a person familiar with the transaction.

The enormous infrastructure commitment highlights the escalating capital requirements behind Anthropic’s Claude AI platform as the company secures additional computing capacity to support model development and rapidly increasing customer demand.

The project is being developed in Nueces County, Texas, by Hut 8, the former cryptocurrency mining company that has increasingly repositioned its infrastructure toward AI data centers.

The source told Reuters that the project encompasses approximately 350 MW of capacity.

Lambda is an AI cloud provider backed by Nvidia and specializes in infrastructure using the chipmaker’s GPUs. Under the reported Anthropic agreement, Lambda will bring Nvidia computing capacity online to support growing demand for Claude.

Anthropic, Lambda, Nvidia and Hut 8 did not immediately comment on the reported agreement when contacted by Reuters.

The $35 billion deal comes as Anthropic dramatically increases its long-term infrastructure commitments.

Just days earlier, the company announced plans to spend approximately $45 billion renting AI cloud computing capacity from Nscale’s data center campus in West Virginia.

Combined, the two commitments illustrate how quickly leading AI companies are securing power, GPUs and data center capacity years in advance as competition in generative and agentic AI intensifies.

Anthropic’s infrastructure needs are being driven in part by demand for Claude and Claude Code, its increasingly important AI coding product.

The broader industry is facing similar constraints. Developers of frontier AI models require large clusters of advanced accelerators, substantial electrical capacity and increasingly sophisticated networking and cooling infrastructure.

That demand has produced hundreds of billions of dollars in planned data center investment involving hyperscalers, AI laboratories, GPU cloud providers, utilities and infrastructure developers.

The Texas project also connects several important players in that AI infrastructure ecosystem.

Reuters noted that Hut 8 announced a 15-year lease in July with an unnamed investment-grade customer carrying a base-term contract value of $19.6 billion.

The Financial Times subsequently identified Nvidia as the tenant at Hut 8’s 1 GW Beacon Point campus. The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the Anthropic-Lambda transaction, said Nvidia itself would hold the lease on the data center associated with the latest arrangement.

For Anthropic, the $35 billion Lambda deal adds another very large source of dedicated computing resources at a time when access to AI infrastructure is becoming a strategic competitive advantage.

The scale of the agreement also demonstrates how the economics of frontier AI increasingly extend beyond model development itself.

The companies that can secure GPUs, power and data center capacity at sufficient scale may be better positioned to train increasingly capable models, handle higher inference volumes and support enterprise customers deploying Claude across software development and other workloads.
