AP Technologies announced the acquisition of Blueacre Technology, a Dundalk, Ireland-based specialist in laser micromachining and nitinol processing for the medical device industry. The acquisition expands AP Technologies’ vertically integrated catheter platform to include nitinol and precision laser processing, while establishing the company’s first European operation in Ireland’s medtech corridor. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Headquartered in Singapore, AP Technologies is a contract manufacturer focused on catheters and medical tubing for minimally invasive medical devices. Through the acquisition, the company adds advanced metal processing capabilities to its existing offerings, which include PTFE-etched liners, FEP heat-shrink tubing, braided and coiled shafts, and finished catheter assemblies.
Blueacre Technology brings nearly 20 years of experience in laser micromachining and nitinol processing for the medical device industry. Its capabilities include femtosecond- and picosecond-laser cutting, laser welding, electropolishing, and on-site rapid prototyping. The combined platform is expected to help OEM customers develop hybrid catheter and delivery system programs through a single supplier with integrated polymeric and metallic manufacturing capabilities.
The Dundalk operation will continue to operate under the Blueacre brand, and existing customer programs will remain unchanged. Dr. David Gillen, founder of Blueacre Technology, will continue leading the Dundalk facility while also joining the AP Technologies leadership team.
AP Technologies said the acquisition strengthens its global manufacturing footprint, which now includes operations in Singapore, the United States, China, Vietnam, and Ireland. The company partners with top-100 medical device OEMs developing minimally invasive technologies.
