Apollo announced the appointment of two senior executives to newly created positions aimed at strengthening the firm’s policy and government affairs capabilities across Europe. Huw van Steenis will join as Partner and European Economic & Policy Strategist, while Sarah Jenkins will become Managing Director and Head of Government Affairs for Europe.
Both executives will begin their roles in August and will be based in London, which serves as Apollo’s European headquarters.
Van Steenis brings more than 25 years of experience in strategy, policy and economic research. Most recently, he served as Vice Chair of Oliver Wyman. Prior to that, he was a senior advisor to the CEO of UBS and also advised former Bank of England Governor Mark Carney. Earlier in his career, he held leadership positions at Schroders and Morgan Stanley and has participated in multiple World Economic Forum initiatives.
Jenkins joins Apollo after serving as Managing Director of Global Public Affairs EMEA at CPP Investments, where she led public affairs efforts across Europe. She previously held roles within the UK government, including positions at HM Treasury and the Department for Business, and also worked in the European Parliament.
Apollo said the appointments come as the firm continues to expand its presence across Europe. As of March 31, 2026, the company managed approximately $1.03 trillion in assets and had nearly $240 billion in assets under management across the EMEA region.
Apollo’s funds have committed more than $60 billion to high-grade investments for major companies and assets throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Those investments have included financing for companies and projects such as AB InBev, Air France, BP, EDF, Intel’s Fab 34 facility in Ireland, Orsted, SOCAR and Vonovia, supporting sectors including semiconductors, aviation, real estate and energy infrastructure.
