Apollo has officially launched Apollo Sports Capital (ASC), a dedicated investment venture that will provide capital solutions tailored to the expansive global sports and live events ecosystem. For this initiative, Al Tylis, a highly experienced sports investor and executive with a distinguished background, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of ASC. Joining him in leadership are Apollo Partners’ Rob Givone and Lee Solomon, who will serve as co-portfolio managers, and Sam Porter, who has assumed the role of Chief Strategy Officer.
ASC is poised to focus primarily on credit and hybrid investment opportunities within the sports landscape. This includes a diverse array of assets such as professional franchises, sports leagues, event venues, media rights, and various live events. The goal of ASC is to operate as a permanent capital holding company, providing a stable and long-term partnership to stakeholders in the sports sector. By offering patient capital, ASC aims to add significant strategic value to its investments and the broader industry.
Before assuming leadership of ASC, Tylis had a notable career in sports investments. He previously held the position of owner and chairman for several teams, including Club Necaxa, La Equidad, and the Brooklyn Pickleball Team. Tylis’ expertise extends beyond ownership; he is actively involved in various governance roles, serving on the boards of prominent organizations such as G2 Esports, the United Pickleball Association, and Canvas Property Group. Additionally, he is a co-founder of the Tylis Family Foundation, which is dedicated to philanthropic efforts. Tylis also brings a wealth of experience from the real estate sector, where he most recently served as President and CEO of NorthStar Asset Management.
Apollo Sports Capital will build upon Apollo’s well-established presence in the sports investment arena. To date, Apollo’s managed funds have deployed $17 billion in the broader sports and entertainment space, which includes substantial investments in sports and entertainment companies, acquisition of media rights, and financing for stadiums and leagues.
