The wireless Apple AirPods earbuds have been one of the most demanded headphones this year and last year. And according to a report by Counterpoint Research via Bloomberg, Apple could potentially sell 82 million AirPods this year.
This would be up from 61 million units as of last year. But Apple is reportedly losing market share compared to other wireless earbuds brands.
Last year, Apple AirPods accounted for about half of all true wireless earphones. But this year it is expected to be around 35% due to rivals like Xiaomi and Samsung.
“The low-to-mid end segment including Chinese brands and U.S. makers such as JLab is taking away share from the premium market,” said Counterpoint analyst Liz Lee via Bloomberg.
There are rumors that Apple will be launching a new line of AirPods in 2021. And the AirPods could see a boost in sales if Apple reportedly plans to shop shipping earbuds in boxes of new iPhones, starting with the iPhone 12 line of devices.
