Apple has acquired assets from Rabbit 3 Times, the company behind the award-winning app design tool Play, according to MacRumors.

According to a notification Apple submitted to the European Commission in February, the company planned to acquire certain assets from Rabbit 3 Times and gain the right to hire certain employees.

The notification was published on the European Commission’s website this week following a four-month waiting period.

Play was a Mac and iPhone app designed to help designers prototype iPhone app interfaces using Apple’s SwiftUI frameworks and then send those projects to Xcode.

The app won a 2025 Apple Design Award in the Innovation category.

Apple previously described Play as a sophisticated but accessible tool for building interactive prototypes with SwiftUI frameworks. The app enabled designers to create interactive prototypes and collaborate across Mac and iPhone with real-time syncing.

Play is no longer available in the App Store.

The acquisition could help Apple improve its developer tools, including Xcode, although Apple’s specific plans for the technology have not been disclosed.

The deal continues Apple’s pattern of selectively acquiring apps, technologies, and talent that can support its broader software and platform strategy.
