Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max To Drive Most Shipments, Says Analyst

The Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro line of devices are expected to be announced on September 12 at an Apple Event called “Wonderlust.” According to credible analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors), the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to drive up to 40% of all early iPhone 15 sales.

“iPhone 15 Pro Max, the most expensive iPhone, accounts for 35–40% of iPhone 15 series shipments, the highest share. iPhone 15 Pro Max shipments in 2H24 also grew 10–20% YoY compared to iPhone 14 Pro Max in the same period. It means Apple is optimistic about the selling point of the periscope, which is only available in iPhone 15 Pro Max,” wrote Kuo in a translated article. This means that the Pro Max shipments are expected to be about 10% to 20% higher than the iPhone 14 Pro Max last year.

One of the reasons why the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to drive more demand is likely due to the rumored periscope lens camera. This feature would enable higher optical zoom of 5x to 6x compared to the 3x optical zoom built into the most current models of the iPhone. The periscope lens is expected to be exclusive for the iPhone 15 Pro Max this year and then likely become a standard in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max next year. The supplier of the periscope lens in the iPhones is believed to be Largan.

There are estimates that Largan would supply about 15-20 million iPhone units with the periscope lens this year and then ramp up to about 30 million next year. The periscope lens parts are believed to cost about 3x to 4x more than traditional lenses.

After Apple announces the new iPhones on September 12, pre-orders are expected to open on Friday, September 22.
