Apple Launches MacBook Pro With PROLED XDR Display, Touch, M5 Pro, And M5 Max

Apple has introduced an all-new MacBook Pro featuring its PROLED XDR Display, bringing tandem OLED technology and Touch capabilities to the Mac for the first time.

Available in 14-inch and 16-inch models, the redesigned MacBook Pro is powered by Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips and includes a thinner, lighter chassis, Dynamic Island, upgraded audio, and up to 24 hours of battery life.

The PROLED XDR Display delivers up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR and SDR brightness and a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It supports adaptive refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz and expands color coverage to include both P3 and Adobe RGB, with more than 80% coverage of Rec. 2020 for HDR video workflows.

Apple is also introducing Touch to MacBook Pro. Users can scroll, pinch to zoom, drag and drop content, tile windows, draw directly on the display, play software instruments, and interact with applications through touch while continuing to use the keyboard and trackpad.

Supported applications include Notion, Canva, Zoom, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, Blender, Cinema 4D, ZBrush, Shapr3D, and djay Pro.

Dynamic Island is also coming to Mac for the first time, providing a central interface for Spotlight, Live Activities, Siri AI, calls, music controls, AirDrop activity, and other real-time information.

The 14-inch model now weighs approximately three pounds, about half a pound less than its predecessor, while the 16-inch model weighs four pounds, approximately 0.7 pounds less. Apple also redesigned the thermal architecture to maintain sustained M5 Pro and M5 Max performance within the thinner chassis.

M5 Pro and M5 Max feature Neural Accelerators within each GPU core to support on-device AI workloads. Apple said M5 Max configurations can run large language models with hundreds of billions of parameters entirely on the device.

Configurations support up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. Connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and a headphone jack.

The MacBook Pro also includes a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera and an upgraded six-speaker system with 50% deeper bass.

The new models ship with macOS 27 Golden Gate, including Apple Intelligence and Siri AI capabilities.

Pricing for the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro starts at $2,899, while the 16-inch version starts at $3,399. M5 Max configurations start at $4,499 for the 14-inch model and $4,799 for the 16-inch model.

Preorders begin October 28, with availability starting November 6.
