Aprio announced it has acquired CAVU Advisors, a Columbia, Maryland-based firm specializing in advisory and accounting services for federal contractors, strengthening its position in the government contracting sector and expanding its capabilities across the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region.

Founded in 2005, CAVU Advisors has built a strong reputation supporting federal contractors with expertise in platforms such as Unanet and Deltek, along with deep knowledge of compliance, operations, and financial management within the federal marketplace. The combination brings together Aprio’s broad advisory platform with CAVU’s specialized experience, enabling clients to access expanded services across accounting, tax, cybersecurity, transaction advisory, wealth, and legal solutions.

The acquisition is part of Aprio’s ongoing growth strategy focused on scaling talent, technology, and industry-specific expertise. With this move, Aprio enhances its ability to support contractors in aerospace, defense, and government sectors, offering integrated services designed to help organizations remain audit-ready, competitive, and positioned for growth.

CAVU’s team, including President Nicole Trimble and Chief Sales Officer Mike Kalnasy, will join Aprio as partners. The addition further strengthens Aprio’s regional presence, which now includes nearly 400 professionals across the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia market.

This deal builds on Aprio’s recent expansion efforts, including prior acquisitions such as Aronson in 2022 and several firms added in 2025, as well as geographic growth into markets like Portland, Oregon, and Denver. The firm has also launched Aprio Global to support cross-border advisory, tax, and accounting services for clients operating in complex international markets.

Aprio, now among the top 20 business advisory and accounting firms in the U.S., continues to expand its national footprint and deepen its specialization in key industries, particularly federal contracting, as it aims to deliver more comprehensive, integrated solutions to clients navigating increasingly complex business environments.
