Aprio has expanded its national state and local tax practice with the addition of the SALT team from TaxOps, a Denver-area tax services firm, strengthening the accounting and advisory firm’s multistate tax capabilities and widening its coverage across additional jurisdictions.
The incoming group includes nine partners and professionals and will bolster Aprio’s ability to advise clients on multistate compliance, planning, and audit matters as states increase tax enforcement activity. Richard Kopelman, Aprio’s CEO, said the move is designed to deepen the firm’s SALT bench and extend its reach for businesses facing growing complexity and risk across state and local tax regimes.
TaxOps SALT leader Judy Vorndran is joining Aprio as a partner and will serve as Aprio’s State and Local Tax Market Leader, responsible for driving the firm’s nationwide SALT strategy and practice growth. The addition also brings SALTovation, a podcast focused on state and local tax issues that is co-hosted by Vorndran and Meredith Smith, further expanding Aprio’s thought leadership efforts in the category.
Aprio said its SALT practice serves clients from emerging companies and high-growth startups to large multistate enterprises, particularly those navigating geographic expansion or major transactions. The firm characterized the TaxOps addition as part of a broader growth strategy that has included 18 strategic acquisitions over the past 24 months, expanding capabilities across tax, accounting, advisory, legal, and technology-enabled services.
