Aptitude Medical Systems has appointed co-founder JP Wang as Co-Chief Executive Officer, formalizing the shared leadership structure he already maintains with co-founder and Co-CEO Scott Ferguson as the molecular diagnostics company expands commercially.
Wang and Ferguson co-founded Aptitude with Jackson Gong in 2011. Wang most recently served as President and Chief Technology Officer and has played a central role across strategy, technology, product development, manufacturing and operations.
The appointment comes as Aptitude transitions from a business historically centered on research and product development into a commercial diagnostics company with products already on the market and a growing customer base.
Its Metrix platform is designed to bring laboratory-quality molecular testing into homes and point-of-care settings.
Aptitude currently offers FDA-authorized molecular tests for COVID-19 and influenza and is working to expand both the commercial reach of Metrix and the number of tests available on the platform.
The Co-CEO structure is intended to allow Ferguson and Wang to continue combining complementary expertise as Aptitude balances product innovation with commercial execution.
Wang has been particularly involved in building the product and manufacturing capabilities necessary to move Aptitude’s molecular diagnostics from development into larger-scale production.
Aptitude said the appointment does not alter its day-to-day operating structure or existing relationships with employees, customers and partners.
The Goleta, California-based company develops, manufactures and commercializes molecular diagnostic products and works with commercial and public-sector organizations to broaden access to testing.
