Aristotle, a voice-first AI tutoring platform designed for students ages 13 to 18, has raised $5 million in seed funding to expand its product, grow its team and launch nationwide. True Ventures led the round, with participation from Wicklow Capital and a large group of angel investors with backgrounds across OpenAI, Anthropic, Sierra, Ramp, Cognition and other AI and technology companies.
The financing follows a closed beta in which more than 1,000 students completed more than 1,500 hours of one-on-one tutoring through Aristotle. The company is now making the service generally available to families across the U.S.
Aristotle is positioning itself as an alternative to general-purpose AI chatbots that are optimized to answer questions quickly. The company’s thesis is that effective tutoring requires almost the opposite behavior: an AI should know when not to provide the answer, encourage students to reason through problems and intervene selectively when they become stuck.
True Ventures described Aristotle as a purpose-built multi-agent system for learning. Its primary tutor agent proactively sets the direction of a session rather than waiting for the student to control every interaction, while specialized subagents evaluate areas such as teaching quality and curriculum consistency.
The system also uses a proprietary dataset consisting of thousands of hours of graded, multi-turn tutoring conversations, along with a multimodal evaluation set designed to measure something more difficult than whether an AI generated a technically correct response: whether the student actually learned from the interaction.
Aristotle’s voice-first interface is intended to feel closer to a live tutoring session than a conventional chatbot. The tutor remembers previous sessions, adapts to a student’s learning style and determines when to push a learner further versus when to offer additional support.
The company was founded in 2025 by Stanford alumni Shan Reddy, Jaiden Reddy and Vivek Vajipey, who bring a combination of tutoring, investing, engineering and AI research experience to the company.
Shan and Jaiden Reddy grew up in Clark County, Nevada, where their school district ranked among the country’s lowest in per-student funding, according to the company. Both relied on tools such as Khan Academy to supplement their education and later spent years tutoring students themselves.
Shan subsequently became an early product employee at Cometeer and an early-stage investor at True Ventures. Jaiden and Vivek were previously True Ventures fellows before moving into engineering roles at Veza and Aisera, respectively.
Vivek’s background also includes research into large language model reasoning at Stanford’s Computation and Cognition Lab. Before founding Aristotle, he surveyed hundreds of students about how they were using LLMs and found that relatively few considered the technology primarily a learning tool.
Those experiences helped shape Aristotle’s approach.
Rather than building another AI interface that simply resolves questions, the founders are attempting to recreate the instructional behavior of an experienced tutor: determining what the student understands, keeping the learner at the edge of their current ability and guiding them through problems without eliminating the reasoning process.
The company currently supports students across STEM subjects, standardized test preparation, language learning and other areas.
Aristotle is initially targeting families willing to pay for high-quality private tutoring but believes AI can eventually make personalized one-on-one instruction accessible to a substantially larger population.
The cost difference could be significant. One parent participating in the company’s beta said her 13-year-old son preferred Aristotle to a human tutor who had been charging $250 per hour.
True Ventures sees the larger opportunity as using software to deliver the characteristics of high-quality individual instruction at a scale that human tutoring businesses cannot economically reach.
The founding team is also using AI extensively inside Aristotle itself. True Ventures said each founder routinely runs multiple agent-driven development tasks in parallel, reflecting a broader AI-native approach to building the company with a relatively small team.
The seed round brings together investors from across the generative AI ecosystem.

The funding will be used to expand Aristotle’s product and engineering capabilities, grow the team and support the nationwide launch.
The broader opportunity is to determine whether AI can move beyond being a shortcut for retrieving answers and instead reproduce one of the most effective but historically difficult-to-scale forms of education: individualized tutoring.
