Arnold & Porter has added Brendan Clegg as a partner in its Financial Services practice in Washington, D.C., expanding the firm’s capabilities across banking regulation, transactions, licensing, enforcement, and compliance matters.

Clegg brings nearly 15 years of experience across the public and private sectors, including previous service as enforcement counsel at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

His practice focuses on representing national and state-chartered banks and other financial services providers in regulatory, transactional, licensing and enforcement matters.

Clegg has advised clients before the OCC, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Federal Reserve Board, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, the National Credit Union Administration, and state banking regulators and attorneys general.

He also helps financial institutions respond to supervisory findings and navigate regulatory examinations conducted by those agencies.

In recent years, Clegg has advised banks and other financial institutions on a range of corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions.

His enforcement work includes representing banks, non-bank financial companies and their directors and officers in enforcement actions, administrative proceedings and investigations.

Clegg also regularly advises clients on consumer compliance, anti-money laundering requirements, safety and soundness, risk management and corporate governance.

The addition strengthens Arnold & Porter’s broader financial services offering by combining regulatory, transactional and enforcement experience within the same practice.

Clegg joins a firm with more than 1,000 lawyers across 16 offices worldwide and capabilities spanning regulatory, litigation and transactional matters.

He earned his J.D. from William & Mary Law School, summa cum laude, and his B.A. from Colgate University, magna cum laude.
