Arnold & Porter has appointed Ken Miller as a partner in the Life Sciences and Technology Transactions teams of its Corporate & Finance practice. Miller will be based in the firm’s Seattle office, which has expanded to 40 attorneys and staff since opening in July 2025.
Arnold & Porter said Miller’s arrival will strengthen its capabilities in life sciences, technology, global health and tax-exempt transactions across the Pacific Northwest and international markets.
Miller brings more than 25 years of experience advising on complex, high-value and multiparty transactions involving technology, life sciences and global health.
He joins Arnold & Porter from the Gates Foundation, where he worked for more than a decade and most recently served as Deputy General Counsel.
At the foundation, Miller led legal strategy for a $1.8 billion global health portfolio. His work included structuring transactions involving the development, manufacturing, financing and distribution of medicines and other healthcare products.
One of the initiatives he supported was a global tuberculosis vaccine program involving pharmaceutical companies, philanthropic funding and international health organizations.
The vaccine program has advanced to Phase 3 clinical trials involving approximately 20,000 participants across five countries.
Before joining the Gates Foundation, Miller spent 17 years in private practice at an Am Law 100 firm.
During that period, he developed a technology transactions practice focused on strategic licensing, intellectual property acquisitions, investments, collaborations and mergers and acquisitions.
His transactional experience spans life sciences, semiconductors and software, giving him experience structuring agreements where technology, intellectual property, healthcare and regulatory considerations intersect.
Miller also previously clerked for the Washington State Supreme Court and the Washington State Court of Appeals.
Arnold & Porter said Miller will work with lawyers across its transactional, regulatory, life sciences and tax-exempt practices.
The firm’s Seattle office handles corporate and technology transactions, real estate matters, class actions, commercial litigation, employment disputes, healthcare issues and hospital-related work.
Arnold & Porter expects to continue expanding the Seattle office as the region grows as a center for technology, life sciences and artificial intelligence development.
Miller earned his J.D. from Seattle University School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Puget Sound.
