ASSA ABLOY To Sell HID PKI Business Unit To Vista Equity Partners

ASSA ABLOY has signed an agreement to sell HID’s Public Key Infrastructure business unit to Vista Equity Partners, transferring a digital-identity and certificate-management business that generated approximately $58 million in sales in 2025.

The PKI unit provides digital trust, identity, authentication, encryption, and certificate-management solutions. Its portfolio includes PKI SaaS offerings, IdenTrust and HydrantID credential-management capabilities, and ZeroSSL. ASSA ABLOY said the unit produced a strong operating margin on 2025 sales of roughly $58 million, or approximately SEK 570 million.

The transaction is intended to place the business with a software-focused long-term owner as identity and authentication markets continue to evolve. Vista Equity Partners specializes in enterprise software and technology-enabled companies and is expected to provide additional resources for product development and growth.

For HID, the divestiture narrows the portfolio while allowing the PKI business to operate under a new owner focused on its specific market. ASSA ABLOY management said the transaction is a positive outcome for customers and employees and gives the unit a platform for continued investment.

The sale is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close during the fourth quarter of 2026. ASSA ABLOY employs approximately 64,000 people globally and reported annual sales of about SEK 152 billion. The company operates across physical and digital access markets, including door-opening solutions, trusted identities, and entrance automation.

The announcement also reflects a broader effort to scale the core business while preserving the operating capabilities, customer relationships, and market expertise already in place. Management’s near-term focus is on execution of the transaction or growth plan described above, integration of the relevant teams and technology, and continued investment in the products and services that support existing customers. The next phase will focus on execution, continuity for customers and partners, and scaling the core platform described in the announcement.
