Asterix Health: £2.1 Million Pre-Seed Raised To Expand Remote GP Workforce Model Across NHS Primary Care

Asterix Health announced it raised £2.1 million in pre-seed financing to expand its remote general practitioner workforce model across NHS primary care practices in the United Kingdom. The funding round was led by Triple Point and included participation from D2, Entrepreneurs First, Basis Capital, DLB Ventures, and a group of angel investors.

Founded in 2024 by Julian Titz and Max Thilo, Asterix Health develops infrastructure and workforce solutions designed to address physician shortages within NHS primary care. The company said it is the first organization approved under new NHS regulations to hire GMC-registered general practitioners based outside the United Kingdom.

According to Asterix, the platform currently supports practices serving approximately 250,000 patients and frees up more than one GP session per practice per day by handling time-intensive clinical administration and telephone consultation tasks.

The company said broader adoption of its model could save the NHS between £250 million and £300 million annually.

Asterix plans to use the new funding to onboard additional NHS practices and expand its network of remote GMC-registered physicians, including NHS-trained doctors currently living abroad who want to return to frontline clinical work remotely.

The company’s proprietary DoctorOS platform integrates with electronic patient record systems including EMIS and SystmOne, providing remote physicians with patient context and workflow integration needed for clinical care delivery.

Asterix also announced the appointment of former NHS England Deputy Medical Director Dr. Mike Bewick as Strategic Medical Lead.

The company said its model is designed to expand overall GP workforce capacity rather than redistribute existing physicians across geographic regions.

KEY QUOTES:

“For the first time in decades we are actually growing the pie — increasing the number of highly qualified GPs available to deliver primary care, rather than simply moving existing GPs around the country. Our early partners are already seeing significant productivity gains and reallocating the saved time into new proactive care services for patients as a result.”

Julian Titz, Co-Founder And CEO, Asterix Health

“The NHS has the talent — it just needs the infrastructure to deploy it properly. Asterix has built that. There are thousands of GMC-registered GPs who left not because they wanted to stop practising, but because the system didn’t work for them. I joined Asterix because they are creating a more sustainable workforce that meets the needs of modern primary care, with a relentless focus on quality and governance.”

Dr. Mike Bewick, Strategic Medical Lead, Asterix Health

“Julian and Max are exactly the kind of founders EF exists for — people who’ve lived the problem and have the depth to fix it at scale. The NHS workforce crisis isn’t going away, and this is the most credible solution I’ve seen. Asterix has the potential to be a defining company in UK healthtech.”

Matt Clifford, Co-Founder And Non-Executive Chair, Entrepreneurs First

“Every time healthcare gets more productive, demand grows to meet it. Unfortunately, there’s no fixed amount of medicine to be done. Asterix is unlocking a pool of brilliant doctors who couldn’t otherwise reach NHS patients, and creating a new model of care that delivers the capacity expansion the system actually needs. Asterix is taking a meaningful step towards greater healthcare abundance in the UK.”
