Astral Systems announced that it has raised £23 million in funding to accelerate the development of fusion-produced medical isotopes.
The funding will support Astral’s efforts to scale production, expand its team and facilities, and advance its mission of bringing fusion-produced isotopes closer to clinical use.
Astral said the company began with a prototype built in Bristol and has since grown into a platform focused on strengthening isotope supply chains. The company believes its technology can unlock new possibilities for cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Medical isotopes are widely used in diagnostic imaging and cancer treatment, but supply chains can face constraints due to limited production capacity and complex infrastructure requirements. Astral’s fusion-based approach is designed to create a more scalable and resilient pathway for producing isotopes used in healthcare.
The company said the new funding marks an important milestone as it works with investors, partners, customers, and its team to bring fusion-produced isotopes closer to real-world medical applications.
