Astranis Secures $468 Million EXIM Financing To Expand Satellite Production

Astranis has secured a $468 million credit facility from the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) to increase domestic satellite production and support the launch of global space infrastructure. The financing is designed to expand Astranis’ capacity to manufacture and operate satellites in the United States as demand grows from commercial and government customers worldwide.

The financing represents a significant expansion of production capacity for Astranis, which develops next-generation geostationary satellites designed to provide dedicated connectivity infrastructure for governments, telecommunications providers, enterprises, and national security customers.

EXIM’s financing will support Astranis as it works through existing orders while pursuing additional satellite service contracts around the world. The company is positioning its satellite architecture as a faster and more scalable approach for countries and organizations seeking sovereign, dedicated communications infrastructure rather than relying solely on shared commercial satellite capacity.

Astranis’ existing global customer base includes Gulf Space Technology in Thailand, Chunghwa Telecom in Taiwan, MB Group in Oman, stc group in Saudi Arabia, and the U.S. government.

The company manufactures its spacecraft from a 153,000-square-foot headquarters in Northern California. Astranis has manufactured and launched five satellites currently in orbit, with additional spacecraft scheduled to launch in support of more than $1.2 billion in commercial contracts.

Astranis specializes in advanced satellites for high orbits and provides dedicated, secure networks for customers with stringent requirements around uptime, data security, network visibility, and customization.

The company said it is currently servicing a backlog of more than $1 billion in commercial contracts. Its customers span sovereign governments, major enterprises, telecommunications providers, and the U.S. military.

EXIM is coordinating with NASA’s Office of Strategic Space Finance as the agencies work to increase support for U.S. space technologies. NASA’s Office of Strategic Space Finance is focused on aligning and scaling private investment into supply chains considered important to U.S. leadership in aeronautics and space exploration.

The financing also reflects a broader effort to increase domestic production capacity for strategically important space infrastructure while supporting U.S. manufacturing jobs and exports.

J.P. Morgan’s Securitized Products Group served as the sole arranger and structuring agent for the transaction. The financing uses a public-private structure intended to support domestic manufacturing and industries viewed as important to national security and economic competitiveness.

Astranis has raised more than $1.2 billion from investors, including Andreessen Horowitz, BlackRock, Fidelity, Franklin Templeton, and Snowpoint. The company employs approximately 500 engineers and entrepreneurs and designs, manufactures, and operates its satellites from its Northern California headquarters.

The $468 million EXIM facility gives Astranis additional capital to scale manufacturing as it seeks to increase the number of satellites it can deliver and broaden its global customer base.
