ATDev: $3 Million Seed Funding Closed For AI-Based Assistive Mobility Platform

By Amit Chowdhry ● Oct 17, 2025

Assistive Technology Development (ATDev), a leader in AI-driven rehabilitation and personal mobility solutions, announced the close of a $3 million Seed funding round to expand its ecosystem of intelligent mobility devices designed to empower people with physical disabilities. The funding round was led by Dobrzelecki Legacy Ventures, with participation from Uphonest Capital, The Life Science Angels, and several other strategic industry investors.

The new capital will enable ATDev to advance development of its flagship product Reflex. This smart, at-home knee rehabilitation robot delivers clinical-grade physical therapy in a home environment. Reflex integrates robotics, wearable sensors, and telehealth capabilities to enable patients to regain mobility and independence more efficiently.

Founded in 2020 and spun out of UC Berkeley, ATDev aims to transform how assistive technology supports independence across the spectrum of physical ability. Its ecosystem merges artificial intelligence, robotics, and remote monitoring to bridge the gap between professional therapy and everyday living.

The company’s founders, Todd Roberts and Owen Kent, emphasized that the funding represents a pivotal step toward democratizing access to movement and redefining what independence can look like for millions of people. Roberts, ATDev’s CEO, emphasized that mobility is a fundamental right, not a privilege, while Kent, the company’s CMO, highlighted their long-term goal of eliminating barriers to mobility caused by financial or infrastructural limitations.

ATDev’s work comes at a time of growing national need. More than 61 million Americans live with disabilities, and an estimated 10,000 people turn 65 each day, increasing demand for affordable and adaptive solutions that allow aging and disabled individuals to live independently. Traditional assistive technologies are often costly, bulky, or outdated — a gap ATDev aims to fill through its modern, accessible design philosophy.

With this new investment, the company plans to expand its product line, strengthen clinical partnerships, and accelerate commercialization efforts for Reflex and future robotic devices that promote rehabilitation and independence.
