atNorth – a leading Nordic colocation high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) service provider, announced a group income of SEK 560 million (EUR 53 million) as it published its 2022 annual accounts. And this figure represents a 44% increase in revenue from 2021 with further growth expected in the coming years.
The company operates six data centers in Iceland, Sweden, and Finland and plans further state-of-the-art sites in the coming years. And the company’s growth calls for extensive investment, and atNorth has secured access to capital for this purpose. This investment for the year 2022 amounted to about SEK 220 million (EUR 20 million), and it is already evident that the 2023 level of investment will be significantly higher.
As the global trend of digital transformation continues and the increase in AI and other big data projects, businesses are increasingly relying on supercomputers to perform increasingly complex calculations. And this demand is fuelling the need for high-performance data centers and supercomputing services, which have increased exponentially in recent years.
atNorth continues to promote the Nordic region as an excellent location for investment in digital infrastructure – recently winning the The Tech Capital Location Award for Iceland due to its advantageous climate, favorable business environment, and sophisticated infrastructure.
An emphasis on sustainable energy use lies at the heart of the business – which the company’s customers have received. And by entrusting the operation of their computer systems to atNorth, many companies have reduced their ecological footprint, resulting in an overall benefit of a reduction in computer operations powered by fossil fuels as used by many traditional data centers.
