AT&T has introduced the AT&T amiGO Jr. Phone, positioning it as the first kid-focused smartphone offered by a wireless provider and designed to help parents stay connected to children while adding safeguards for everyday use. The company said the launch is aimed at families with earlier and more frequent device access, noting that a significant portion of its customer base is parents.
AT&T framed the product around parental demand for safety and simplicity when a child gets their first phone. The company cited research indicating that many parents of children up to age 12 view smartphones as essential for safety and that a majority prefer to purchase a child’s device through their existing wireless provider. AT&T also cited parents’ interest in emergency calling and real-time location tracking as key drivers of kids’ smartphone access.
The company said the amiGO Jr. Phone was developed in collaboration with Samsung, combining Samsung’s hardware experience with AT&T’s emphasis on kid-appropriate usability and parental controls. AT&T tied the experience to the free AT&T amiGO app, which allows parents to manage screen time, apps, and settings from their own iOS or Android device. Key features include location sharing, Safe Zones, and Schedules designed to limit distractions during school hours.
Alongside the phone, AT&T also announced the AT&T amiGO® Jr. Watch 2, a second-generation watch that is more durable and includes native messaging, games, and rewards. AT&T said new and existing customers can purchase both the amiGO Jr. Phone and amiGO® Jr. Watch 2 via its online and retail channels for $2.99 per month each, with no trade-in required.
