AT&T announced the launch of Unlimited Day Pass, a new on-demand wireless connectivity service that provides eligible U.S. iPad users with 24 hours of unlimited data for a flat rate of $3 per day. The service is available to both AT&T customers and non-customers and does not require contracts, subscriptions, or credit checks.
According to the company, AT&T is the first major U.S. wireless carrier to offer on-demand cellular connectivity for eligible Wi-Fi + Cellular iPads equipped with eSIM capabilities, regardless of the user’s existing mobile provider.
As part of the launch, customers will receive their first day pass free of charge, with a limit of one complimentary pass per customer. After that, users can purchase additional 24-hour passes using a debit or credit card.
AT&T said the offering is intended to address the large number of iPads that are not currently connected to cellular plans. The company believes the service provides a flexible alternative for customers who only need occasional connectivity, such as while traveling, working remotely, or when Wi-Fi networks are unavailable.
Users can activate the service directly from their iPad settings without downloading an app or connecting to Wi-Fi. By opening the Settings app, selecting Cellular Data, and choosing AT&T Unlimited Day Pass, customers can purchase and activate service, with the 24-hour data period beginning shortly after payment.
The service currently supports a range of Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad models with eSIM capabilities, including recent iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad mini, and standard iPad models.
AT&T said the product represents another step in its efforts to simplify wireless connectivity and provide consumers with more flexibility without requiring long-term commitments. The company also plans to expand Unlimited Day Pass to additional 5G-enabled devices in the future, including Android tablets, smartwatches, laptops, and drones.
In addition, AT&T said it intends to introduce multi-day options, including weekend and week-long passes, as the service evolves.
AT&T serves more than 100 million consumers and approximately 2.5 million businesses in the United States through its wireless and broadband offerings.
