AT&T To Sell AT&T Mexico To Grupo Televisa And Fintech Holdings For $2 Billion

AT&T has agreed to sell AT&T Mexico to Grupo Televisa and Fintech Holdings for $2 billion in cash at closing, subject to certain adjustments, along with additional contractual and contingent benefits.

The transaction is intended to sharpen AT&T’s strategic focus and capital allocation around its U.S. operations, particularly continued investment in fiber and 5G infrastructure. AT&T said the move further aligns its portfolio with its long-term strategy of building converged connectivity networks for consumers, businesses, and communities.

AT&T has spent years consolidating and modernizing its Mexican wireless operations, developing the business into one of the country’s leading wireless providers. The company believes AT&T Mexico is now positioned for its next growth stage under owners with significant local operations, capital, and market expertise.

Grupo Televisa brings an established fixed-line broadband presence in Mexico, while Fintech Holdings is expected to contribute additional capital, local knowledge, and experience in the Mexican wireless market. AT&T believes the combination of those capabilities could support further development of AT&T Mexico and strengthen its customer proposition.

For AT&T, the divestiture gives it more flexibility to focus investments on its U.S. connectivity strategy. The company has prioritized expanding its fiber and wireless networks as it prepares for rising connectivity demands from artificial intelligence and other data-intensive applications.

The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to customary closing conditions and necessary regulatory approvals in Mexico. Until closing, AT&T expects to classify AT&T Mexico as held for sale within continuing operations beginning with its third-quarter 2026 Form 10-Q. AT&T said it expects no changes to the experience currently provided to its U.S. consumer and enterprise customers as a result of the transaction.
