Attuned Intelligence, a new player in healthcare AI, has recently announced its official launch and secured $13 million in seed funding. The investment was led by Radical Ventures and Threshold Ventures.
At the center of Attuned’s offering is its supervised voice AI technology, specifically tailored for call centers in hospitals and health systems. This cutting-edge solution is designed to answer patient calls instantly, while efficiently resolving up to 70% of all interactions, thereby alleviating pressure on human staff.
The current state of patient access in the U.S. healthcare system is alarming. Hospitals are spending vast amounts—tens of billions of dollars each year—on call centers. However, high staff turnover, shrinking workforces, and ongoing vacancies have left many call centers operating with only around 60% of the personnel they need. This shortage results in long wait times and overburdened frontline teams, preventing millions of patients from accessing necessary care.
Attuned’s platform stands out by combining immediate response capabilities with a balanced approach of AI supervision and human oversight. This ensures that routine inquiries are automated safely, while urgent issues are rapidly escalated for human attention. Hospital leaders can maintain transparency in decision-making by viewing exactly how the AI handles various scenarios.
The system is also equipped to support multiple languages, which is crucial for addressing the needs of a diverse patient population. Promising early results have already been observed at Lowell Community Health Center (CHC), which provides services to 40,000 patients each year. Attuned’s technology went live at Lowell CHC in just 10 days, allowing it to answer every call to the main line around the clock.
The platform now handles over 6,000 calls weekly, dealing with a wide range of inquiries from emergencies and medication questions to billing and medical records. Many of these interactions occur in various languages, highlighting the importance of both safety and accuracy. As a result of its partnership with Attuned, Lowell CHC is poised to automate more than 70% of its call center operations, resulting in a significant reallocation of resources toward direct patient care.
Attuned is rapidly expanding its presence across various health systems and safety-net providers, each at a different stage of implementation. Current deployments handle thousands of calls every day and impact the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients. For instance, one health system experiences nearly 50,000 calls weekly, a workload that would exhaust traditional staffing models but is seamlessly managed with Attuned’s platform.
Attuned plans to further refine and advance its supervised AI platform by developing deeper, more sophisticated integrations with EHR systems. The ultimate goal is to ensure that one day it can safely and consistently manage 100% of patient communications for health systems.
