Aurelian, an AI company dedicated to streamlining non-emergency calls for 911 centers, has recently announced a $14 million Series A funding round. This investment was primarily led by NEA, with support from notable existing investors, including Y Combinator, FUSE, Liquid 2, and Palm Drive Capital. The company plans to utilize these funds to expand its reach and services to even more emergency communications centers (ECCs) across the United States.
As emergency communications centers grapple with increasing challenges—particularly staffing shortages and an overwhelming number of non-emergency calls—Aurelian offers a timely and efficient solution that is specifically designed for the complexities of public safety work. The company’s AI assistant is capable of triaging and resolving non-emergency calls, which range from noise complaints to parking violations and general inquiries. This capability enables these centers to manage calls without requiring a dispatcher to be involved in every interaction, thereby freeing up valuable time and resources.
Since its launch in May 2024, Aurelian’s system has already made significant strides in enhancing the efficiency of communication centers nationwide, now serving nearly 5 million Americans. For its current customers, Aurelian’s technology automates an impressive average of 74% of non-emergency calls, which translates to each dispatcher saving approximately three hours a day. This reduction in workload not only helps alleviate the pressure on staff but also ensures that emergency services can focus on critical situations that truly require their immediate attention.
Beyond just efficiency, Aurelian’s AI platform is remarkably inclusive, supporting over 35 languages through various channels, including voice, SMS, and web chat. This feature enables emergency communications centers to connect more effectively with diverse communities that might otherwise be underserved.
KEY QUOTES:
“911 is in a crisis: severe understaffing and ever-expanding responsibilities have made ECCs overextended and overworked. At Aurelian, our sole purpose is to help them best serve their communities. 911 call-takers are trained to handle emergencies, not parking complaints. Aurelian reduces burnout and helps telecommunicators stay focused on the most critical situations.”
CEO and cofounder Max Keenan
