Avandra Health has significantly expanded its position in the medical imaging and clinical data sector through the acquisition of DatCard Systems and Sorna Corporation. The company said the dual transactions will create the largest integrated medical imaging platform serving both real-time patient care and advanced research needs. Financial terms of the acquisitions were not disclosed.
The move brings together DatCard’s leadership in DICOM distribution and Sorna’s long-established expertise in automated medical data sharing with Avandra’s growing federated network for de-identified imaging data used by biopharma companies, researchers, healthcare providers, and AI developers. Together, the capabilities aim to address longstanding barriers to imaging accessibility, interoperability, and research enablement.
DatCard Systems is widely known for its PacsCube product, which has more than 4,800 installations worldwide supporting seamless imaging data sharing for continuity of care. Sorna Corporation, trusted by major health systems for over 25 years, is the creator of the Vertex Platform, which offers cloud-enabled data sharing, automated DICOM CD production, and intelligent routing technologies.
Both companies collectively serve most Academic Medical Centers in the United States, including more than half of the National Cancer Institute sites. Avandra said the acquired businesses will maintain their existing operations, teams, and customer commitments while benefiting from increased investment in innovation, feature development, and enhanced support services.
The acquisitions come at a time when medical imaging remains an underutilized resource for healthcare and research due to persistent challenges in accessing data locked within PACS environments. Avandra, founded in 2024 by Aegis Ventures and CEO Ryan Tarzy, aims to address these limitations by organizing and connecting imaging datasets across providers and research entities to enable earlier diagnoses, new treatment development, and large-scale AI model training.
Avandra plans substantial investments across all three platforms, including new product capabilities and expanded customer support infrastructure, as it strengthens its position as the leading global medical imaging data network.
