Avandra Health has announced the acquisition of DatCard Systems and Sorna Corporation, creating what the company calls the world’s largest medical imaging platform serving both clinical care and research innovation. The combined organization aims to streamline clinical data sharing among providers while expanding Avandra’s capabilities in de-identified imaging data aggregation for biopharma, healthcare systems, researchers, and AI developers.
The acquisitions bring together two of the most established companies in medical data distribution. DatCard Systems is recognized as a market leader in DICOM distribution, with more than 4,800 installations of its PacsCube product worldwide. Sorna Corporation has a long-standing reputation as an industry pioneer in automated medical data distribution, known for its Vertex Platform, which includes cloud-brokered data sharing, automated DICOM CD production, and intelligent routing of patient information.
Both DatCard and Sorna serve a large share of major academic medical centers in the United States, including over half of National Cancer Institute sites. According to Avandra, the companies will continue operating independently under the Avandra brand, with plans for expanded investment in product development, feature enhancements, and customer support.
Avandra was founded in 2024 by Aegis Ventures and CEO Ryan Tarzy to organize the world’s medical imaging data and reduce barriers that have historically prevented researchers and clinicians from effectively accessing imaging information housed in siloed PACS environments. The company operates a federated network for clinical and imaging data that supports healthcare providers, research organizations, and AI companies seeking high-quality imaging datasets.
With the addition of DatCard and Sorna, Avandra intends to strengthen its footprint across both clinical care and research by improving data accessibility, enhancing workflow automation, and building a more connected ecosystem for imaging exchange and innovation.
