Axle has raised $17.5 million in Series A funding led by Base10 Partners to expand its AI-native insurance clearinghouse. Y Combinator and Gradient made follow-on investments, while Stage 2 Capital and industry angel investors, including the founders of Cover Genius, also participated. Existing investors include members of Plaid’s early team.
Axle provides infrastructure and AI agents that automate insurance verification, monitoring and policy update workflows.
The company said it has tripled the number of workflows it automates during the past six months and now clears more than $100 billion in insurance coverage annually for more than 4,000 customers.
Customers span auto dealers, rental car companies, mortgage lenders, auto lenders and employers, including companies such as Rocket Mortgage, Avis, Experian and Sonic Automotive.
Axle said its technology has accelerated insurance workflows by as much as 20 times while helping customers recover hundreds of millions of dollars in losses. The company separately said it has helped customers recover more than $220 million.
The platform integrates with fragmented carrier systems, routes requests to the appropriate system and standardizes unstructured insurance information into a common API that software applications and AI agents can use.
Axle plans to use the financing to hire across engineering and go-to-market functions and expand into more than 50 segments across home, auto, renters, commercial and specialty insurance.
