Axon announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Carbyne, an emergency communications and response platform used by hundreds of agencies serving more than 250 million people globally. The deal values Carbyne at $625 million and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.
The acquisition reflects Axon’s broader strategy to modernize the whole public safety workflow, starting at the moment a call for help is made. Carbyne provides a cloud native call handling platform that enables emergency communications centers to receive, route, and manage calls with resilience and continuous service. The platform is designed to give faster access to real-time data and reduce delays caused by legacy infrastructure.
Axon plans to integrate Carbyne’s technology with Prepared by Axon, its AI-driven situational insight capabilities. Together, these technologies will form Axon 911, a fully integrated system intended to connect emergency callers, dispatchers, and responders with improved context throughout the entire incident lifecycle. The company stated that this combined platform will support field response, investigations in Axon Evidence, and case resolution in the justice system.
The acquisition is designed to create a unified communication and response environment that supports better decision-making and faster coordination. The companies stated that unifying the call handling and response layers is intended to close information gaps that occur between the time a call is received and the moment responders arrive on scene.
Support/counsel: Legal counsel for Axon included Meitar Liquornik Geva Leshem Tal and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. Herzog, Fox & Neeman and Greenberg Traurig served as legal counsel to Carbyne.
KEY QUOTES:
“Every year, more than 240 million 911 calls are made in the U.S., and in too many cases, vital information is lost between the call and the response. By uniting Axon’s 30-year legacy of innovation with Carbyne’s cloud-based call management platform, we’re closing that gap, giving call takers and dispatchers instant visibility and connecting them directly to officers in the field. It’s how we transform a call for help into the first moment of intelligence.”
Rick Smith, Axon Founder and CEO
“Carbyne was created to modernize how help arrives — by giving emergency professionals the clarity, resilience, and confidence they need in critical moments. Joining Axon allows us to scale that mission globally and integrate more deeply into the broader public safety ecosystem. Together, we’ll help agencies save time, reduce uncertainty, and improve outcomes for the people and communities they serve.”
