Babst Calland, a law firm focused on environmental, energy, corporate and other business matters, has added Sarah M. Czypinski as Senior Counsel in its Litigation Group in Pittsburgh.
Czypinski represents businesses in complex disputes involving commercial contracts, class actions, employment and labor, energy and natural resources, fiduciary duties, financial fraud, real estate, leases, easements, environmental matters, antitrust, insurance coverage, bad faith and product liability.
Her industry experience spans energy and natural resources, manufacturing, healthcare, insurance, construction and the public sector.
Czypinski handles litigation through all stages, from pleadings and discovery to trial and appeal, in both state and federal courts. Her practice has a particular emphasis on federal litigation stemming from her previous experience as a law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
Her work includes drafting pleadings and dispositive motions, managing depositions and complex discovery, and advising clients on early case assessment, litigation risk, and strategy.
She also represents businesses in energy, environmental, employment, labor and insurance coverage matters. Those engagements include permit challenges, property and lease disputes, discrimination and wage-and-hour claims, and insurance coverage and bad faith actions.
Czypinski has experience representing both policyholders and insurers, giving her perspective on insurance coverage disputes and strategies for maximizing available coverage.
Her practice also includes appellate litigation in state and federal courts. She has worked on matters involving questions of first impression and appeals seeking changes to existing law and has argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
Before joining Babst Calland, Czypinski was a senior attorney at Houston Harbaugh. She earned her law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2015.
