Baker Botts Adds Energy And Infrastructure Partner Mark Schlackman From King & Spalding In Houston

Baker Botts has appointed Mark Schlackman as a partner in its Houston office, expanding the firm’s capabilities in complex energy and infrastructure transactions. Schlackman joins from King & Spalding, bringing experience advising developers, investors, lenders, and other industry participants on major projects involving energy development, financing, acquisitions, and divestitures.

His practice combines corporate and financing expertise with experience across the development, construction, operation, and maintenance of large-scale energy projects.

Schlackman advises clients on transactions involving conventional and renewable power generation, midstream infrastructure, and downstream oil and gas assets.

His work spans multiple stages of the investment process, including project development, financing arrangements, joint ventures, acquisitions, and sales.

The appointment strengthens Baker Botts’ ability to advise clients on transactions requiring expertise across corporate, finance, and project development matters.

Schlackman’s recent experience includes advising JERA on the joint development and final investment decision for a major low-carbon ammonia production project at the Blue Point Complex in Ascension Parish, Louisiana.

The project is being developed in partnership with CF Industries and Mitsui and is described as one of the world’s largest low-carbon ammonia production projects.

The transaction was named a finalist for the 2025 Financial Times Innovative Lawyers North America Awards and the 2026 AIEN Energy Transition Initiative of the Year.

His experience with the project reflects his work advising clients on transactions involving multiple investors, industrial partners, and complex development arrangements.
