Baker McKenzie Adds Ricardo Perera As Mexico City Tax Controversy Partner

Baker McKenzie has strengthened its Tax Controversy practice in Mexico by adding Ricardo Perera as a partner in its Mexico City office.

Perera brings more than 15 years of experience advising domestic and international companies on contentious administrative and tax matters. His client experience spans the hotel, automotive, and technology sectors, adding further capabilities to Baker McKenzie’s tax disputes platform in Mexico.

His practice focuses on administrative and tax controversy matters, including tax refund procedures before federal and local tax authorities. Perera has represented clients in litigation before tribunals, including Mexico’s Supreme Court, as well as in proceedings before Mexico’s tax ombudsman, PRODECON.

Before joining Baker McKenzie, Perera worked at specialized firms in Mexico and co-founded a firm where he led the tax litigation practice.

Baker McKenzie said the addition comes as companies operating in Mexico face heightened scrutiny involving complex transactions, cross-border structures, and tax compliance positions. The firm expects businesses to place greater emphasis on early risk assessments, documentation, and coordinated dispute strategies when responding to audits and litigation.

Perera joins Baker McKenzie’s broader Global Tax Controversy team, which advises clients on complex tax audits, disputes, litigation, administrative appeals, and court proceedings across more than 40 countries. The practice also handles interactions with tax authorities and other government agencies in high-stakes and sensitive matters.

Perera earned his law degree from Universidad Latinoamericana in 2010 and a Master of Law in Taxation from Universidad Panamericana in 2015. He completed the Essentials of US Tax Law Program at New York University School of Law in 2017 and is currently pursuing an MBA from IPADE Business School.
