Baker McKenzie announced that Frankie Tam has joined the firm’s Hong Kong office as a partner in its Data, Technology, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice. The appointment is aimed at strengthening the firm’s capabilities advising clients on technology transactions, outsourcing, data privacy, information management, and cybersecurity as companies navigate the challenges of digital transformation.
Tam brings experience advising multinational companies on a wide range of technology transactions, including outsourcing, cloud infrastructure, commercial contracts, and digital transformation initiatives. She has also counseled organizations on data privacy compliance and cybersecurity matters.
Her work has included supporting financial institutions and technology companies on strategic transactions involving digital currencies, central bank digital currencies, stablecoins, and cross-border payment systems. Tam has advised clients across multiple industries, including aviation, financial services, technology, and life sciences, as they navigate regulatory changes involving artificial intelligence, fintech, cybersecurity, and data governance.
Tam has received several industry recognitions for her work in fintech and digital assets. These include being named Fintech Lawyer of the Year, China 2025 by the Legal 500 Awards, and Fintech and Digital Assets Lawyer of the Year 2024 for Asia at a leading industry award. She has also been recognized as a Leading Partner for Fintech: Foreign Firms in China and as a Next Generation Partner for TMT in Hong Kong in the Legal 500 2026 Guide. She is qualified to practice law in Hong Kong, New York, and England & Wales.
Beyond her legal practice, Tam is active within the technology ecosystem. She currently serves as director of the Cyber Legal Policy Committee and previously served on the vetting committee of Hong Kong’s Innovation and Technology Commission’s General Support Programme, where she advised the government on technology projects.
Tam’s arrival adds to a series of recent partner hires across its global Data & Cybersecurity and Fintech & Payments teams as the firm expands its capabilities in advising clients on technology, regulatory and digital transformation matters.
