Baker McKenzie has announced that Sumon Dantiki, a former senior official at the U.S. Department of Justice, has joined its Washington, DC office as a partner in the Litigation and Government Enforcement Practice and as co-chair of the firm’s National Security Practice. Dantiki is widely recognized for his expertise in cybersecurity, national security, and complex investigations, especially in matters involving the intersection of technology, security, and legal risk.
His practice focuses on high-stakes, multi-dimensional matters, including data breaches, insider threats, ransomware incidents, compliance risks, whistleblower claims, and cross-border disputes. He advises multinational companies on preventing and responding to critical threats to their operations and reputation.
Dantiki’s public service career includes serving as cyber advisor to the Director of the FBI, where he counseled on nation-state, insider, and espionage threats, oversaw intelligence and criminal investigations, and coordinated with the National Security Council and other agencies on major security incidents. He also prepared the FBI Director for more than 20 congressional appearances and worked closely with oversight bodies. Earlier in his career, he served as a trial attorney in the DOJ’s Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section and as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in Maryland.
He joins Baker McKenzie from private practice, following the recent arrival of former U.S. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who also co-chairs the National Security Practice. The group provides strategic advice and representation on a wide range of enforcement, regulatory, and compliance matters, including anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, sanctions, export controls, CFIUS, cybersecurity, and crisis management.
Dantiki is the latest in a series of high-profile hires for Baker McKenzie’s Washington, DC office, which has also welcomed former DOJ trial lawyer Tim Finley, former U.S. Treasury official Scott Levine, and former IRS advisor Donna McComber. The Litigation and Government Enforcement Practice is part of the firm’s global Dispute Resolution group, one of the largest in the world, with more than 1,000 lawyers across 70+ offices.
