Balance Theory has raised $19 million in Series A funding to expand its AI-native platform for managing cybersecurity investments. The round was led by SYN Ventures, with participation from existing investors DataTribe and TEDCO.
Cybersecurity executive Dan Burns, the founder of Accuvant and former CEO of Optiv, has joined Balance Theory as Executive Chairman.
Balance Theory helps chief information security officers evaluate cybersecurity needs, allocate budgets, compare vendors and move purchasing decisions into implementation.
The company said many cybersecurity investment decisions remain managed through spreadsheets, disconnected systems, manual coordination and point-in-time assessments. This can result in redundant products, unused software and reduced purchasing leverage.
Balance Theory currently manages more than $1 billion in cybersecurity investment spending.
The company said customers generate an average first-year return on investment exceeding 300%, including cost savings, improved budget efficiency and the ability to fund previously unsupported priorities. Its platform combines three connected systems.
The first creates a persistent system of record for an organization’s security program. The second incorporates proprietary market intelligence into decision-making workflows. The third uses AI agents, skills and automated workflows to turn decisions into coordinated execution.
The platform also maintains a continuing record of each investment decision, including why it was made and whether changes in the business or market affect its value or priority.
Balance Theory will use the financing to expand its go-to-market operations, deepen enterprise integrations, develop its proprietary market intelligence, and add more agents and skills to the platform.
