Balyasny Asset Management Chief AI Officer Charlie Flanagan recently discussed with OpenAI for Business how advances in artificial intelligence are accelerating research and automation across the investment firm.
According to Flanagan, OpenAI’s Codex platform and GPT-5.5 have significantly enhanced the capabilities available to employees. “Codex has been a game changer. GPT-5.5 in particular has really unlocked a new level of intelligence, but also a new level of work that the system is capable of doing,” Flanagan said.
Balyasny said 97% of the firm’s employees are now using its internal AI platform, which supports a broad range of functions including investment research, software development, and the automation of back-office operations and processes.
The hedge fund manager noted that its AI infrastructure is helping employees work more efficiently and enabling faster analysis and decision-making across the organization. The firm described 2026 as a pivotal year in which many of its workflows are being powered by the Codex framework.
By embracing AI-driven tools throughout the business, Balyasny said it is operating at the forefront of technological innovation in the investment management industry.
