Barti: $12 Million Series A Secured For AI-Based Eye Care EHR Platform

Barti Software, a company specializing in AI-driven solutions that deliver innovative electronic health records (EHR) and practice management software tailored for ophthalmology practices, has announced a Series A funding round amounting to $12 million, led by Five Elms Capital.

This strategic partnership will facilitate Barti’s efforts to enhance its market outreach, expand its personnel across key departments, and accelerate the development of new AI functionalities and workflow automation as the company expands into the ophthalmology sector.

The organization will also continue to enhance its integrated features to promote increased operational efficiency for practices and to reinforce its status as the comprehensive solution for contemporary eye care.

Co-founded by an optometrist, Barti is engineered to address the challenges faced by eye care practitioners, offering an end-to-end operating system that consolidates clinical, operational, and financial workflows. This empowers practitioners to concentrate on patient care with fewer interactions, systems, and administrative burdens.

Eye care practices encounter increasing pressures from staffing shortages, declining reimbursements, and intensifying online competition—while simultaneously managing disconnected legacy systems that restrict growth and contribute to provider burnout.

Featuring industry-first functionalities, including an AI Scribe designed explicitly for eye care, a native telephony/VoIP system, and website management tools, Barti introduces innovative software solutions to these longstanding challenges.

Having onboarded more than 200 practices over the past three years, Barti has rapidly established itself as a leader in eye care technology. Additionally, Barti is the first and sole company invested by AOAExcel, the for-profit subsidiary of the American Optometric Association (AOA), which provides member benefits to support optometry practices.

KEY QUOTES:

“Today, the eye care industry takes a massive leap forward. This is one of the last sectors of healthcare still burdened with legacy systems. Instead of waiting a decade for modern tools to trickle in, providers using Barti now have access to the latest developments in AI designed specifically for optometrists, opticians, and ophthalmologists.”

“Our goal is to automate 80%+ of routine admin work through our tools, including AI agents, to enable practitioners to prioritize patient care without being bogged down by tedious administrative tasks. Our AI Agents are quickly approaching the capability to do everything from handling calls, optimizing inventory and pricing, scrubbing and submitting insurance claims, and analyzing clinical images. By 2027, practices will look and sound completely different, with doctors using their voice to manage most of their work and eliminate repetitive tasks. Our goal has always been to provide a business in a box for modern eye care practices using our unique combination of Silicon Valley tech and deep industry expertise. This partnership with Five Elms enables us to double down on that vision by dramatically accelerating our product roadmap, scaling to more practices across the country, and leading the charge into the era of AI.”

Colton Calandrella, CEO and Co-Founder of Barti

“Barti is bringing real product depth to a space long underserved by legacy software. By embedding AI into the core of its platform, not as a bolt-on but as a foundational layer, Barti delivers automation that feels native to how modern practices work. We’re excited to support their next phase of growth as they continue transforming how providers operate, scale, and serve patients.”

Ryan Mandl, Partner at Five Elms Capital

“As an optometrist, I’ve observed how software can hinder patient care. We developed Barti to transform that experience and to refocus attention on patient care and the doctor–patient relationship.”
