Baseten: $150 Million Series D Raised At $2.15 Billion Valuation For AI Inference Platform

By Amit Chowdhry • Sep 6, 2025

Baseten, a company that is powering some of the most widely adopted AI products, has announced the close of a $150 million Series D funding round, valuing the company at $2.15 billion. The round was led by BOND, with participation from new investors CapitalG, Premji, and Kevin and Elizabeth Weil of Scribble, along with continued support from existing backers including Conviction, 01a, IVP, Spark, and Greylock. This funding round brings Baseten’s total funding to over $285 million and marks a defining moment in the company’s journey as it scales to meet the surging demand for AI infrastructure.

The timing of this raise couldn’t be more aligned with the broader trajectory of the AI industry. Over the past year, AI adoption has accelerated at a pace few anticipated, with applications reaching millions of users in mere weeks and transforming industries from healthcare and finance to education and entertainment.

At the center of this transformation is inference, which is the process of running trained AI models in real-world applications. Inference is where AI meets the user, where predictions are made, decisions are supported, and value is created. It’s also where performance, cost, and scalability become critical.

Baseten has positioned itself squarely at the center of this shift. Its platform is purpose-built for inference, designed to handle the demands of modern AI applications that must operate reliably, efficiently, and at scale. By combining applied AI research with flexible infrastructure and intuitive developer tooling, Baseten enables companies to move from experimentation to production with speed and confidence.

The company’s Inference Stack has become a foundational layer for both hypergrowth AI startups and enterprise teams, helping them deploy cutting-edge models without compromising on performance or economics.

In the past year alone, Baseten has supported customers like Abridge, Captions, Clay, OpenEvidence, and Writer—companies that are not only pushing the boundaries of what AI can do but also generating billions of dollars in revenue across sectors. These partnerships underscore the critical role inference plays in the success of AI products and the growing reliance on Baseten’s infrastructure to deliver consistent, high-quality experiences to end users.

With the Series D funding, Baseten plans to scale its team and deepen its investment in key areas. The company will continue to advance its research into model performance, build out its infrastructure to support even larger workloads, and refine its developer tools to make deploying and managing models as seamless as possible. It will also expand its customer-facing teams to ensure that clients receive the support and guidance needed to navigate the increasingly complex landscape of AI deployment.

This announcement follows a series of product milestones that have further solidified Baseten’s position in the market. The launch of Baseten Model APIs and Baseten Training has provided developers with new ways to deploy models into production and tailor them for specific use cases. These tools, combined with the Inference Stack, reflect a broader vision for AI infrastructure—one where multiple models can collaborate, adapt to changing conditions, and deliver exceptional performance without compromising reliability or cost efficiency.

KEY QUOTES:

“If cloud was the foundation that enabled the latest generation of great technology companies, inference is the foundation for the next. Every breakout AI application depends on fast, reliable, and cost-effective inference, the same way the last 15 years of companies depended on the cloud. Baseten makes that possible. In the same way Stripe became an index of the internet economy, Baseten will become an index of the AI economy.”

Tuhin Srivastava, Co-founder and CEO of Baseten

“At Clay, we use Baseten to power our AI experiences because it gives us the speed, scale, and reliability we need. The impact has been transformative. We launch new AI capabilities faster, with higher quality, and with the confidence they’ll perform for our customers. Baseten isn’t just infrastructure for us, it’s a critical piece of how we deliver the next generation of AI-powered GTM.”

Kareem Amin, co-founder and CEO of the AI GTM platform, Clay

“At Abridge, our mission is to power deeper understanding in healthcare by transforming medical conversations into clinically useful and billable documentation in real time. Delivering on that promise requires inference that is both fast and trustworthy. Baseten supports our mission with infrastructure that scales safely across health systems. It is an important component of our technology stack, which is trusted by tens of thousands of clinicians to generate more than a million clinical notes every week.”

Dr. Shiv Rao, CEO and Co-founder of Abridge

“Baseten supports billions of custom, fine-tuned LLM calls per week at OpenEvidence, serving high-stakes medical information healthcare providers in every major healthcare facility in the country. If you see a doctor today, chances are that they are leveraging OpenEvidence and Baseten for trustworthy, up to date medical information at their fingertips. Baseten’s tierless dedication to reliability and deep support at scale has proven up to the task of supporting this at times literally life-or-death mission.”

Zachary Ziegler, Co-founder and CTO at OpenEvidence

“Inference is a major bottleneck, and solving it is key to unleashing the full potential of AI. Baseten is doing this today. I saw firsthand at Atlassian how a relentless product company can scale from startup to standard. Baseten is on a similar trajectory. They are years ahead in both product and adoption.”

Jay Simons, General Partner at BOND

“Baseten doesn’t just support AI innovation—it accelerates it. Baseten’s infrastructure enables the most ambitious AI teams to rapidly transform concepts into market-changing products that customers actually need.”
