BasicBlock has acquired TrueNorth, a free loadboard and AI-powered dispatch platform serving trucking carriers and freight brokers. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition expands BasicBlock beyond freight factoring and into tools that help owner-operators and small fleets find loads, manage dispatching and make operating decisions.
Freight factoring allows trucking companies to sell unpaid invoices in exchange for faster access to cash. The service helps independent carriers cover expenses such as fuel, maintenance, insurance and payroll while waiting for brokers or shippers to pay.
TrueNorth operates a loadboard that connects carriers with available freight. Its AI dispatcher is designed to help trucking businesses identify suitable loads and manage parts of the dispatch process.
BasicBlock has historically concentrated on financing and cash flow management. The company said changing freight market conditions have increased the need for carriers to receive operational support in addition to faster payments.
Combining the platforms could allow carriers to use one provider for financing, load discovery and business decision support. BasicBlock plans to integrate TrueNorth’s team and technology into its broader carrier services platform.
TrueNorth was founded in 2019 by Jin Stedge and other members of its founding team with the goal of helping truckers operate more profitably and independently. Stedge and the TrueNorth team will join BasicBlock following the acquisition.
BasicBlock is based in Lincoln, Nebraska, and primarily serves owner-operators and small trucking fleets. The company helps carriers receive payment more quickly and manage the cash flow demands of operating independent transportation businesses.
