BCI Private Equity has added Nikhil Hanmantgad as Managing Director of its healthcare vertical, reinforcing the firm’s global expansion and deepening its focus on the rapidly growing life sciences and health services sectors. In this newly created role, Hanmantgad will spearhead sourcing and execution of new investments, oversee value-creation initiatives across existing portfolio companies, and collaborate closely with the senior leadership team to refine BCI’s healthcare strategy.

Hanmantgad joins from Mubadala’s United States healthcare platform, where he served as a senior principal responsible for deploying capital into growth-stage and buyout opportunities.

Over his twenty-year career, he has led more than $2.5 billion in transactions spanning digital health, medical devices, and services. His prior experience includes a principal role at Health Catalyst Capital and a tenure as CEO of MedTools, a healthcare IT innovator. In addition to deal experience, he has held board and operating roles at companies such as Norstella, Zelis, PCI Pharma, Datavant, Clearsense, Simplifeye, and Clareto.

BCI’s healthcare practice has expanded rapidly since Jon Salon took leadership in mid-2024. The addition of Hanmantgad reflects the firm’s belief that combining investment discipline with hands-on operating insights is essential to driving growth and operational improvements in complex healthcare businesses. His background in both investing and running companies is intended to accelerate the performance of BCI’s health portfolio and enhance the support provided to management teams.

The move also follows BCI’s recent establishment of a European private equity office in London and growth of its local team to pursue opportunities across the continent. Today, BCI Private Equity maintains over 70 professionals in Victoria, New York, and London, deploying capital across market cycles and geographies. The hiring of Hanmantgad underscores a broader commitment to build sector expertise and to back innovative businesses with patient capital and value-creation resources.

BCI stands among Canada’s largest institutional investors, managing assets for public sector pension plans and other clients. Its private equity platform focuses on proactive liquidity management, leveraging a global network of operating partners and industry advisors. Within the healthcare vertical, the firm targets businesses that can benefit from digital transformation, regulatory expertise, and scalable operating platforms.

Hanmantgad has an MBA from Columbia Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the NYU Stern School of Business.
