Belite Bio held approximately $780 million across cash and U.S. Treasury securities at the end of the second quarter as the biotechnology company builds commercial infrastructure ahead of a potential launch of tinlarebant for Stargardt disease type 1.
As of June 30, Belite Bio had $279.9 million of cash and cash equivalents along with $500.1 million invested in U.S. Treasury bills and Treasury notes. Combined, those holdings totaled approximately $780 million. At the end of 2025, the company held $352.9 million of cash and $419.7 million of Treasury securities.
The sizable capital position comes at an important transition point for Belite Bio. The FDA has accepted the New Drug Application for tinlarebant in Stargardt disease type 1, or STGD1, and granted Priority Review, with a Prescription Drug User Fee Act target action date of February 12, 2027.
There are currently no approved treatments for STGD1. Tinlarebant is intended to reduce the accumulation of vitamin A-based toxins known as bisretinoids that contribute to retinal degeneration and progressive loss of central vision.
Belite Bio has already begun preparing for commercialization. Management said team expansion is continuing and commercial and operational infrastructure is being built ahead of a potential approval. The company also plans to hold a Commercial Day in September to provide an update on its preparations.
The company recently reported additional secondary endpoint results from its pivotal Phase 3 DRAGON trial. Quantitative autofluorescence, or qAF, which measures the accumulation of toxic bisretinoids, showed a marked difference between tinlarebant and placebo patients.
At month 25, qAF values among tinlarebant-treated patients remained stable to slightly below baseline, with an approximately 2% decline. Patients receiving placebo experienced an approximately 20% increase from baseline. Belite Bio said the result added to the clinical evidence supporting tinlarebant in STGD1.
The company’s clinical program extends beyond the completed DRAGON trial. DRAGON II has completed enrollment of 73 subjects, including 15 Japanese patients, and is designed partly to facilitate a potential future regulatory submission in Japan. The Phase 2/3 study is being conducted across Japan, the U.S. and the U.K.
Belite Bio is also evaluating tinlarebant in geographic atrophy, or GA, through the pivotal Phase 3 PHOENIX trial. Enrollment has been completed with 530 patients, and the company expects to conduct an interim analysis.
Spending is increasing as Belite Bio advances clinical programs and prepares for potential commercialization. Second-quarter R&D expenses increased to $18.2 million from $11 million a year earlier, primarily because of a royalty payment associated with an additional milestone under a license agreement.
SG&A expenses increased to $16.7 million from $6.5 million, primarily reflecting higher professional service fees and increased wages and salaries associated with team expansion.
Belite Bio reported a second-quarter net loss of $28.4 million, compared with $16.3 million in the prior-year quarter. The company generated $6.6 million of other income, up from $1.3 million, primarily due to interest income from bank deposits and its U.S. Treasury holdings.
Belite Bio’s balance sheet showed approximately $791.6 million of total assets and $776.6 million of shareholders’ equity at June 30, providing significant financial resources as the company approaches the FDA decision date and continues developing tinlarebant across multiple retinal diseases.
KEY QUOTES:
“We continue to make significant strides in advancing tinlarebant in Stargardt disease. The FDA’s acceptance of our NDA is a pivotal milestone for Belite Bio and the STGD1 community, bringing us meaningfully closer to potentially delivering the first ever approved treatment for STGD1. We believe the Priority Review status reflects the strength of our data and recognizes the tremendous unmet need for people living with this debilitating retinal disease.”
“Simultaneously, our launch preparations are well underway, including continuing our team expansion and building out our commercial and operational infrastructures. We believe we will be well positioned for both a strong launch and long-term success.”
