Best Buy has announced a series of executive leadership appointments as the consumer electronics retailer prepares for its upcoming CEO transition and reorganizes around four strategic priorities.
The leadership changes take effect immediately and are intended to help Best Buy advance as a retail, media, advertising and technology company, expand its reach, improve the customer experience and maintain a human-powered, customer-focused operating model.
The appointments include Frank Bedo as chief strategy and growth officer, Patrick McGinnis as chief revenue officer, Luke Motschenbacher as chief retail and services officer, Lisa Valentino as chief ads and media officer and Duane Scarboro as chief fulfillment and operations officer.
Each of the newly appointed executives will report to incoming CEO Jason Bonfig.
The updated structure is designed to align Best Buy’s leadership team more closely with the company’s growth plans and bring related commercial, operational and customer-facing functions together under dedicated executives.
Bedo has been appointed chief strategy and growth officer after most recently serving as Best Buy’s chief marketplace and e-commerce officer.
He has more than 25 years of merchandising and e-commerce experience at Best Buy, including leadership responsibilities across computing, mobile devices, digital imaging and accessories.
In his new role, Bedo will help shape Best Buy’s long-term strategy and evaluate new growth opportunities, investments, partnerships and customer experiences.
His responsibilities are expected to connect the company’s broader strategic planning with initiatives intended to expand Best Buy beyond its traditional retail model.
Best Buy has increasingly emphasized digital commerce, third-party marketplace opportunities, advertising, services and other businesses that can generate revenue alongside the sale of consumer electronics.
McGinnis has been named chief revenue officer and will oversee the company’s primary revenue-generating businesses.
He joined Best Buy in 2002 and has held leadership roles spanning merchandising, exclusive brands, membership programs and customer relationship initiatives.
McGinnis most recently served as chief merchandising officer.
As chief revenue officer, he will oversee merchandising, e-commerce, Best Buy Marketplace, Best Buy Health and the company’s Canadian business.
The structure places several of Best Buy’s most important commercial operations under one executive, potentially improving coordination across products, digital channels, services and geographic markets.
Best Buy Marketplace allows third-party sellers to offer products through the retailer’s digital platform, expanding the assortment available to customers without requiring Best Buy to own all of the inventory.
Best Buy Health develops technology-enabled products and services for areas such as remote patient support, aging at home and health-related connected devices.
Combining these businesses with core merchandising and e-commerce responsibilities could help Best Buy identify cross-selling opportunities and build more integrated customer relationships.
Motschenbacher has been appointed chief retail and services officer.
He has worked at Best Buy for more than 20 years and has led merchandising teams, strategic partnerships and retail operations across multiple product categories.
Motschenbacher most recently served as president of retail, where he led Best Buy’s store teams.
In his expanded role, he will oversee all U.S. stores and the service operations that support customer experiences before, during and after a purchase.
These services can include consultations, delivery, installation, technical support, repairs and other assistance provided through Best Buy’s retail and in-home teams.
The appointment reflects the company’s effort to connect its physical stores more closely with services that differentiate it from online-only competitors.
Best Buy’s stores serve not only as shopping locations but also as fulfillment centers, service hubs and destinations where customers can receive advice about increasingly complex technology products.
Valentino has been named chief ads and media officer.
She joined Best Buy in 2024 and brings more than 20 years of experience in advertising and media leadership.
Valentino previously served as president of Best Buy Ads, the retailer’s media network.
In her new position, she will oversee Best Buy’s broader advertising and media business, including Best Buy Ads.
Retail media networks allow brands to purchase advertising using a retailer’s websites, mobile applications, stores and customer insights.
These businesses have become an important growth opportunity for large retailers because they can generate advertising revenue while helping brands reach consumers near the point of purchase.
Best Buy can use its customer relationships and technology-focused audience to offer advertisers campaigns connected with product discovery, consideration and sales.
Valentino’s appointment signals that the company sees advertising and media as a central part of its future rather than a supporting function within its retail operations.
Scarboro has been appointed chief fulfillment and operations officer.
He joined Best Buy in 2003 and has played a significant role in modernizing the retailer’s supply chain.
Scarboro most recently served as senior vice president of supply chain distribution operations.
His new role brings together the teams responsible for how products and services move through Best Buy’s business.
He will oversee sourcing, supply chain, fulfillment, delivery, service and execution within stores.
Combining these areas under one executive could help Best Buy improve inventory availability, delivery speed, operational efficiency and the coordination between stores, distribution centers and service teams.
Consumer electronics retailers must manage a wide assortment of products with different sizes, sales patterns and product cycles.
Customers may also expect multiple fulfillment options, including home delivery, store pickup, shipping from stores and professional installation.
Scarboro’s expanded responsibilities are intended to create a more connected operating system across these functions.
Jeff Haydock will continue serving as chief communications and public affairs officer, while Jennie Weber will remain chief marketing officer. Both executives will report to Bonfig.
Bonfig, Chief Legal and Risk Officer Todd Hartman, Chief Digital and Technology Officer Neal Sample and Chief Human Resources Officer Kamy Scarlett will continue reporting to current CEO Corie Barry until she leaves the company on October 31.
The company is also conducting an external search for a chief financial officer who will work with Bonfig.
Current CFO Matt Bilunas is scheduled to step down on July 31.
The leadership reorganization comes as Best Buy prepares for a new chapter following Barry’s departure and Bonfig’s move into the CEO position.
The company is seeking to build on its position as a major consumer electronics retailer while expanding into businesses that can strengthen customer engagement and generate additional revenue.
Best Buy’s strategy increasingly combines stores, digital commerce, technology services, advertising, healthcare and logistics.
Its physical locations remain central to the company’s business, but the retailer is also investing in capabilities that extend beyond traditional product sales.
For example, Best Buy’s service teams can help customers install and maintain technology, while its advertising operations allow brands to reach shoppers through Best Buy’s digital and physical channels.
The marketplace business can expand product selection, and Best Buy Health provides exposure to a growing market for technology supporting healthcare and independent living.
By assigning executives to oversee strategy, revenue, stores and services, advertising and fulfillment, Best Buy aims to create clearer accountability for each of these growth areas.
The company operates more than 1,000 stores across North America and employs more than 80,000 people.
Best Buy generated more than $41.6 billion in revenue during fiscal 2026.
The retailer sells consumer electronics and related products through its stores, websites and in-home channels while providing consultations, delivery, installation, technical support and repair services.
It also operates trade-in, recycling and repair programs that support its participation in the circular economy.
Best Buy said the redesigned executive team combines long-tenured company leaders with specialized expertise in areas that will shape its next stage of growth.
