Betterment Advisor Solutions Launches Unified Managed Accounts For RIAs

Betterment Advisor Solutions launched Unified Managed Accounts, expanding its portfolio management capabilities for registered investment advisers and giving advisors greater flexibility to create personalized, multi-strategy portfolios at scale.

The new UMA functionality allows advisors to combine portfolios from Betterment’s model marketplace with custom investment strategies inside a single client account.

Betterment’s marketplace includes both proprietary portfolios and third-party models.

Each strategy can be maintained as a separate investment sleeve, allowing advisors to configure individual portions of a client’s portfolio while retaining a consolidated account view.

Advisors determine the overall asset allocation, while Betterment’s technology coordinates rebalancing among the sleeves.

The platform also applies tax-loss harvesting and gains allowance management across the strategies, helping coordinate realized gains and losses throughout the account.

Betterment said the capability is intended to make increasingly sophisticated portfolio structures easier for RIAs to manage across larger client bases.

The launch follows an expansion of Betterment’s model marketplace earlier in 2026.

That initiative added turnkey portfolios from asset managers including Goldman Sachs Asset Management, State Street Investment Management, and Vanguard.

Betterment said the UMA architecture also creates a foundation for adding direct indexing as another investment sleeve.

That could provide advisors with additional options for personalized and tax-efficient portfolio construction.

Betterment Advisor Solutions provides custody, portfolio management software, automated back-office services, billing tools, and client solutions spanning cash, investing, and 401(k) accounts.
