BigBear.ai announced it has acquired certain technologies from CargoSeer Ltd., an AI software company focused on cargo-scanning enhancement and trade risk management for customs enforcement missions worldwide, in a deal with undisclosed financial terms.
The McLean, Virginia-based company, which provides AI products and services for defense, national security, and critical infrastructure, said the acquisition is intended to strengthen its offerings for customs agencies seeking to modernize border and port-of-entry operations.
CargoSeer’s AI Shipment Inspection Platform is designed to support Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) by combining automated image analysis, computer vision, and machine learning with trade and cargo data. BigBear.ai said the technology can help customs operators more quickly identify high-risk shipments, detect threats, and improve inspection efficiency across ports of entry.
BigBear.ai Chief Executive Officer Kevin McAleenan said the acquired technology aligns with the company’s strategy of delivering trusted capabilities to government customers focused on secure and efficient movement of transported goods, particularly as customs agencies upgrade inspection and enforcement workflows.
CargoSeer CEO and co-founder David Smason said joining BigBear.ai is expected to accelerate the scaling and global adoption of CargoSeer’s technology in support of customs and border modernization initiatives.
