Bird-X announced the acquisition of Symterra, the developer of the patented Symterra Pulse™ bird deterrent system, expanding Bird-X’s portfolio of technology-driven bird control solutions. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded more than 60 years ago, Bird-X provides bird control solutions across commercial real estate, industrial facilities, agriculture, transportation infrastructure, government properties, and other environments worldwide. The acquisition adds Symterra’s proprietary electromagnetic frequency (EMF) technology to Bird-X’s existing lineup of sonic, visual, laser, and physical bird deterrent systems.
Under the new ownership structure, the business will operate as Symterra by Bird-X. The company said the combination will pair Symterra’s technology with Bird-X’s engineering expertise, customer support infrastructure, operational capabilities, and global distribution reach.
Symterra developed its reputation around the Symterra Pulse™ system, which is designed to discourage birds from landing and establishing roosting sites through proprietary EMF technology. The system features a low-profile design and scalable installation options intended for commercial buildings, warehouses, industrial facilities, towers, transportation infrastructure, and other sensitive applications.
Bird-X said the acquisition strengthens its ability to provide integrated bird management solutions tailored to different customer environments and bird pressure challenges. The company also noted that the addition of Symterra Pulse™ creates a new technology tier within its broader bird control ecosystem.
John Smalley, former CEO of Symterra, said the company selected Bird-X because of its leadership position and long-term commitment to innovation within the bird control market. Smalley added that the acquisition provides the resources and infrastructure necessary to scale the Symterra Pulse™ platform more broadly.
Jeff Spencer, President & CEO of Bird-X, described the acquisition as more than an expansion of the company’s product lineup, emphasizing that the technology broadens Bird-X’s ability to deliver advanced and integrated bird deterrent solutions globally.
Bird-X said the transaction further positions the company to serve customers across commercial, industrial, agricultural, and government sectors with a wider range of bird management technologies.
