Blackstone Closes $8.7 Billion Energy Transition Partners V At Hard Cap

Blackstone announced the final close of Blackstone Energy Transition Partners V at $8.7 billion, with the energy-focused private equity fund reaching its hard cap after attracting demand that significantly exceeded its fundraising target.

BETP V is more than 50% larger than its predecessor vehicle and extends Blackstone Energy Transition Partners’ strategy of making control-oriented equity investments in energy-related businesses. The strategy focuses on building companies that can support growing global electricity demand while improving energy reliability, affordability, and efficiency.

Blackstone said the Energy Transition Partners strategy has generated a 34% net internal rate of return since 1997 as of June 30. The firm has committed more than $34 billion of equity globally through the strategy across a range of energy sectors.

BETP V began its investment period in June and has already funded three platform companies: Kindle, Fisterra, and Viridon. These platforms are backing management teams focused on developing and operating new power generation assets and electric transmission infrastructure.

The fund has also completed three acquisitions centered on energy efficiency, infrastructure resiliency, and technology. These include Flow Control Holdings, a provider of engineered flow-control components used in data center liquid cooling systems; Dresser Utility Solutions, which supplies meters, regulators, pressure-relief valves, and infrastructure repair products for gas and water utilities; and DarkVision, a provider of technology-enabled inspection services for critical energy infrastructure.

Blackstone said that since January 2025, BETP has committed more than $11 billion to new equity investments across the energy transition ecosystem. The activity has included investments in critical energy equipment manufacturers such as MacLean Power Systems, Delta Star, Power Grid Components, Arlington Industries, and Advanced Cooling Technologies.

The strategy has also invested in essential services businesses including Alliance Technical Group and Shermco, energy data analytics provider Enverus, and natural gas-fired power infrastructure including Hill Top Energy Center, Wolf Summit Energy, and Potomac Energy Center.

At the same time, Blackstone has been monetizing several mature investments held by predecessor funds. Recent transactions include an agreement to sell Aypa Power, which operates a 6 GW North American battery storage portfolio, and the sale of a majority interest in Sabre Industries, a manufacturer of infrastructure products serving power utilities, telecommunications companies, and data centers.

Blackstone also completed the initial public offering of Legence, a provider of specialty mechanical contracting and engineering services serving data centers, healthcare facilities, and other high-specification commercial and industrial markets.

BETP generally excludes investments involving the ownership and extraction of hydrocarbon reserves. Blackstone said its approach centers on providing flexible capital to management teams that can expand energy infrastructure, manufacturing capabilities, and related services.

The final close comes as Blackstone continues expanding its broader energy transition investment portfolio alongside its global alternative asset management businesses. Blackstone manages more than $1.3 trillion in assets across strategies including real estate, private equity, credit, infrastructure, life sciences, growth equity, secondaries, and hedge funds.
