Site Reliability Engineering Company Blameless Receives $20 Million Boost

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) company Blameless announced it raised $20 million in seed and Series A funding from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Accel Partners, and several strategic investors. Founded by former Lightspeed partner and S28 Capital founding general partner Lyon Wong (COO) and former MuleSoft and Box executive Ashar Rizqi (CEO), Blameless emerged from stealth to announce the industry’s only go-to platform for SRE professionals.

With this funding round, Blameless will deliver on the vision of moving technical blame from the individual to the “system.” This will create a more productive, effective, and “blameless” work environment.

“This radical change of moving blame from an individual to a ‘system’ means that engineering teams can correctly address technical debt, meaning innovation is fueled rather than stalled. Business teams can have a productive working relationship, and companies can hire and retain the best and brightest to achieve business goals,” said Blameless co-founder and chief operating officer Lyon Wong. “SRE is quickly growing into a multi-billion dollar opportunity, and the latest funding validates investor trust in Blameless’s impact during the past year.”

Blameless’s SRE platform offers complete transparency into APIs and homegrown applications powering systems. This transparency enables engineering and DevOps teams to resolve incidents faster, prevent issues from happening repeatedly, and automatically calculate error budgets.

“Today’s companies are struggling to innovate quickly while maximizing reliability and delivering an optimal customer experience. You can’t sacrifice one for the other,” added Rizqi. “SRE enables companies to balance the innovation and reliability risks, while maintaining customer trust. We’re honored – and excited – to have Accel and Lightspeed behind us as we enter this important next chapter, allowing engineering and DevOps teams to stay one step ahead of the innovation curve.”

Using the funding, Blameless is also going to expand its product suite, grow its engineering and marketing teams, and build up the SRE community, customer, and partner base. Currently, Blameless has more than 20 enterprise customers including DigitalOcean, Procore and The Home Depot.

Lightspeed partner Ravi Mhatre pointed out that Blameless built its core product, hired aggressively, attracted a seasoned executive team, and landed over 20 notable enterprise customers in one year.  And Accel partner Vas Natarajan explained that Blameless is championing the SRE movement and is building “a complete, secure and compliant enterprise platform for teams” that is gaining a lot of momentum, which they are very impressed with.
