Bloomberg has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Canoe Intelligence, an AI-powered platform that automates the collection, processing and delivery of private markets data. Financial terms and an expected closing date were not disclosed.
The acquisition will expand Bloomberg’s ability to provide integrated data, analytics and workflow tools across public and private investments. Bloomberg plans to combine Canoe’s private fund data infrastructure with its Terminal, portfolio analytics, enterprise data and AI products to support institutional investors throughout the investment lifecycle.
Canoe processes more than 1.5 million documents each month across over 44,000 private funds. Its platform serves more than 500 institutional clients representing more than $11 trillion in assets under service, including institutional investors, fund servicers, wealth managers and family offices.
Private markets information is frequently distributed through capital account statements, performance reports, notices, spreadsheets and other documents produced by individual fund managers. Canoe uses AI to extract and standardize that information, reducing the manual work required to prepare portfolio-level data.
The company acts as a data connection between general partners that operate investment funds and limited partners that allocate capital to them. Its technology primarily supports post-investment reporting by delivering structured information that can be incorporated into portfolio, accounting and risk-management systems.
Bloomberg currently provides information on more than three million private companies, 50,000 private funds and 16,000 direct private loans. Earlier in 2026, the companies introduced a certified integration that sends permissioned Canoe data into Bloomberg PORT Enterprise for cross-asset portfolio analysis.
Following the acquisition, Bloomberg plans to provide a more complete view of public and private holdings through an integrated Investment Book of Record. The combined platform is expected to support exposure and risk analysis, cash management and look-through reporting for underlying private fund holdings.
Bloomberg also intends to expand pre-investment capabilities involving fund screening, benchmarking and comparative analysis. Investors could use those tools to identify relevant funds, evaluate managers and incorporate prospective private investments into broader portfolio allocation decisions.
The acquisition will support a more consistent private markets data architecture using identifiers such as Bloomberg’s Financial Instrument Global Identifier. Standardized identifiers can help firms reconcile information across security masters, portfolio systems and downstream operating platforms.
Bloomberg also plans to make the combined information available through ASKB, its agentic AI conversational interface. The integration is intended to help users discover information, perform analysis and generate insights across public and private assets through natural-language interactions.
Canoe was incubated by principals of 10East and 22C Capital. Its institutional investors have included Blackstone Innovations Investments, Carlyle AlpInvest, Eight Roads, F-Prime, Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Hamilton Lane and Nasdaq Ventures.
Jefferies served as Canoe’s exclusive financial advisor, and Cooley acted as its legal advisor.
KEY QUOTES:
“Over four decades ago, Bloomberg revolutionized the finance industry by bringing transparency and efficiency to public markets. Today, private markets are primed to undergo a similar transformation as investors seek the same kind of structured, timely insights across private assets.”
“Canoe gives us access to the data, technology, and community to respond to that shift, and positions Bloomberg to deliver an experience that will define the next era of investing: connecting data, analytics, and tools to support the full investment lifecycle across both public and private markets.”
Vlad Kliatchko, CEO of Bloomberg
“Alternative investors manage billions in private capital without the visibility and insights that public markets take for granted. We’ve built Canoe around a fundamental belief: that shouldn’t be the case.”
“When we partnered with Bloomberg earlier this year on our PORT integration, we saw firsthand what becomes possible when Canoe’s data automation meets Bloomberg’s portfolio infrastructure. Joining Bloomberg lets us build on that foundation at scale, with more resources, more reach, and more data behind Canoe, giving investors the clarity to analyze their complete portfolios and the confidence to act on what they see.”
“This is how the world invests in alternatives going forward.”
Jason Eiswerth, CEO of Canoe Intelligence
